Now That I am Wiser

When I was younger…
I thought tiny people lived in street lights and moved the lights to red, to yellow, to green.
I knew that if your hand or any part of your body stuck out of your covers on your bed someone would grab you/your body.
I was scared to go in the basement because of a boogie man in the back room.
I believed that a crazy guy would be in the shower hiding behind the shower curtain.
I thought that during the night a robber lived in the back porch and in the morning he would leave.

Now that I am wiser…
I know that the city controls the street lights, not tiny people.
I don’t care if my hand or my skin sticks out of the bed covers.
I am not scared to go into my basement because it is redone, also I think how would crazy men get into my house?
I take showers knowing that a crazy guy was not in my shower.
I know that we have a censored light in my porch that would  probably scare away the robbers.

Colonial Day!

On March 11th, 2011 the fifth graders at Lakeside Elementary had Colonial day. The setup of the day was going to be centers in each classrooms, Ms. Rabideau's room, Miss. Reardon's room, and Mr. Scheidel's room. It all started when I woke up and jumped into my long Colonial dress and had a bite to eat knowing that we would have a big feast for lunch. I was so excited to have my day of Colonial day starting very soon!
When I got to school I went to my safety post and all of the little kids were looking at me wide eyed. I was sort of embarrassed, but I knew everyone else was dressed just like me.
Some centers that I enjoyed the most was sewing in Miss. Reardon's room. We sewed a marble bag. I thought it would be pretty tricky but once I got the hang of it I was having a blast! Another one of my favorites was weaving in Ms. Rabideau's room. My group got our own loom and a popsicle stick, and really just got going! After a few rows I was addicted! When that center was over our parent helpers told us that we could do it at home and for any free time during the day. One last thing that I liked was either the donut making or the feast. At the donut making station we got so dough and had to flatten it out, next we had a parent helper fry the dough, after it was fried and crispy we had the option to put powder sugar on...I put a ton on! The feast was delish! We ate turkey, mashed potatoes, corn muffins, and veggies. The good part about the feast was we got to sit with the whole grade. That was nice because I didn't see them all day.
I learned that the Colonists back then did not have all of the electronics that we have now but all day I realized that not having electronics is not that bad. The Colonists could have defiantly survived in our time with no electronics! Today was one of my favorite days this year!
